Tips to Personalize a Headstone
We've worked with couples, individuals, and families as they worked through the process of building a tribute here at South West Monument. We work hard to understand what made their loved one's (or own) life special so that we may appropriately hold their heritage and let know their tale in a headstone.
Many individuals want a memorial stone with merely their or their loved ones' names, birthday, and death dates, while others want to create something absolutely unique, never seen before on the face of the world. These are the 2 extremes, but the majority of people are somewhere in between.
Select a Standout Color
Did you realize that granite comes in more than 3 or 4 different colors? When walking through a cemetery, you might not notice because the bulk of the stones are black, pink, gray, or brown. Most people are unaware of the variety of hues offered in granite until they visit our showroom and see the samples on display.
Individual Preferences
Perhaps a Blue Silk or Blue Pearl memorial would be appropriate for someone who has always liked the color blue. If they like red, India Red or Wausau could be a good choice. You may find a color in our showroom that you have never seen before and decides it's the stone they need.
Make a Memorial in Your Own Shape
Memorials don't have to be rectangular (unless your cemetery specifies otherwise)! Designing a distinctively shaped stone is one of the simplest methods to make a truly personalized headstone.
Make Your Own Carvings
While we have a design book full of hundreds of pre-manufactured carvings, we are always happy to create a bespoke carving to assist you express your narrative more effectively. Our artists are ecstatic to have the opportunity to carve something fresh!
Carvings are a means to give a look into the life of the individual whose memory is being honored. They can provide visitors with insight into the person's passions. Perhaps they were ecstatic about their job as a nurse, cop, or farmer. Let's adorn their stone with a nurse's badge, a police badge, or a tractor!
Add a Thoughtful Epitaph
We've all seen a photograph of a gravestone with a humorous or smart inscription carved onto it. It's true that you can write whatever you want on the stone and no one will be able to stop you! Still, it varies on cemetery laws and restrictions, but you should be ok for the most part.
Take Note of Your Wedding Date
For our married people, putting your wedding date can add a meaningful and personal touch to the tale your monument is telling. Your and your husband's special date can also be featured in a graphic that tells the audience more about how you and your spouse lived your lives together.
We want all your loved one to be always with you. If an unfortunate incident happens and you suffer loss, contact us to make the most beautiful and memorable headstone in OKC at South West Monument.
